Birmingham 6

The Birmingham 6 were a group of men who were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 in the UK for the Birmingham pub bombings. Their conviction is seen throughout the world as the epitome of a "justice system gone wrong." These men, all Roman Catholics were stopped while they were on way to a funeral in Belfast for a friend [incidentally an IRA member.] Their conviction was overturned on the 14 of March 1991, these men never received an apology, nor anything that would put the Birmingham CID or the justice system in the wrong.

Birmingham 6 [the band] was formed in response to this injustice, to fight against [not only this injustice] but to all that is going around the world. Ive always believed that there is a vast majority of Industrial music that is meaningless, some groups have no content behind what they create. Birmingham 6, break those stereotypes- here are a few of their songs, ill let you decide.

The Damned

The damned, is one of those groups that straddled what was early punk and then went on to venture on toward new paths. They always a had a sort of gothic element to themselves, and I don't know if I would even consider them punk despite their coming out of the same scene that produced other notables such as the sex pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Generation X, etc.- They did pave the road for other British punk acts to have the chance to be successful, as they were the first brit punk band to release a single, release an album and tour the United States. Those are some pretty strong milestones that they accomplished.

Ill stop with the chatter and pass you on to the blokes of "The Damned."

Misery Lab

Considering that Rosetta Stone was the post before this; I thought it fitting that Misery Lab the moniker that Porl King of Rosetta fame goes under be given a focus. When I heard Porl was putting out music under a new banner, I was both looking forward to it and somewhat weary of it. I have been a huge Rosetta Stone fan for a long time, and I suppose I fell under that category of fans that are not that open to change, but upon first listen of songs by Misery Lab -- I knew my worries would be thrown to the wind. So if you may have been a fan of Rosetta Stone - there is no need for worry Porl is still making awesome music. In all reality its entirely different and I want to do him justice by not putting his newer work under that old category.

Here are some songs for you to check out:

Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone is an ancient Egyptian Artifact. It was discovered bythe French in 1799 and has served as an instrument in the advancement of the modern understanding of ancient languages.

Rosetta Stone was, is also one of the greatest Gothic rock music groups to have ever come out. I was firs introduced to them when I heard "nothing important" off the Gothik double c.d., I remember hearing it once and asking my friend to dub me a tape with just that song on it. There probably is no proper way to describe how much I enjoyed and still do enjoy their music.

Here is "Nothing Important" and my other favorite "If only and sometimes"

The Presets are honestly a duo that have their own unique sound, they are a breath of fresh air in what otherwise would be a stale stagnate environment.

I must say one must listen to their music to really understand, so in the line of what we do here at this blog, here is a remix to one of their songs.

The Black Ghosts

Ever had that song that runs up, down, from side to side, and all over your mind, an intoxication of sound blasting from every possible angle into every possible ear. The Black Ghosts, an Electro /Pop duel from London have been out for a while, but the single “Any Way You Choose To Give It” has blasted from my desktop, car, phone, and home sound system recently. It’s a dope ass fucking song that every person needs to hear before dying. Work of genius.

Phoenix

Some of the best modern indie melodic songs that have emerged in the last few years have originated from the French/Pop band, Phoenix. In 2000, their "United" debut cd hit the market, and was even featured in movies such as Farrell's Brothers, Shallow Hal, and Lost in Translation. Alphabetical, released in 2004, has such hits as "Run Run Run" and "Everything is Everything." It's Never Been Like That, released in 2006, magnificent to say the least. It's one of those bands that just capture you and bring you down from whatever turmoil that might be twirling within your imploding mind. Check them out!

The led? Or the Leader?

this is something I wrote and had given to a professor to read.
- enrique

The Led? Or the Leader?
One of the sheep? Or Shepherd?
Am i truly in control of myself or do other factors around me have an impact on that self.

Perhaps I could debate the subject of the existence of one's self, but this arguments would in itself be riddled with "I's."

Plainly it exists.
Us being in true control of it - that is something I doubt.
In that romantic sense, we want to say I am myself, that my actions are controlled measures, and I, only I influence them.

Even I would love to sit here and write that my world exists purely by my actions, by my choices, and no one or no thing had any outward, inward influence on it. That I say is absurd. When you sit back and ponder on it, that is when those little contradictions arise.

Now then, if I can't control myself, or have pure control, how do I go on living? How has, or how will my existence be determined. If there even is a life existing when one's world is strictly determined, then there must be a prior destination of man.

Which exists?
We all are working toward the same end -
the thought of an immortal god exists in being due to our hopes as people living for an end.
The end no one can pull them self from.

Our death is much the best proof of physical determinism, you are watching yourself fade into oblivion with each day that passes.
This walk into that silent world - this will warrant some form of reaction.

As in reference to the "Absurd," or at times like that you are making, or trying to in that time.
So that self, you may have thought yourself as defined by, this self can move.
This self is not concrete, with each choice made, the supposed concrete cracks and thus a change is born.
When faced with death at an old age, just because you made it that far does not mean you have accepted it.

Still you have the chance for suicide - couldn't suicide be seen as a leap of faith. "I took my life in hope of God being there at the end." Or the "my faith in god allowed me to take my life."
Still there is acceptance/and acceptance could be tied with suicide and the leap of faith.

Indie 101

Tired of listening to the same old depressed shit that just makes you question so many things rather than enjoy life without regard to what it might mean. The fact that it is upbeat, happy, and romantic is all that matters. Don't get me wrong I like metal as much as the next head banger, but life is not always depressing, especially when you find beauty in the most and even the those likely places, things, or person. When does it end?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I had the chance to finish watching "To die in Jerusalem" tonight, and I have to recommend it to everyone.
The documentary focuses on two women, one from Israel, and the other from Palestine, both united as mothers. The Palestinian mother, her daughter became a suicide bomber, or Martyr, in her eyes, and blew herself up in a market in Israel killing the Israeli mothers daughter.
I can understand where both of them are coming, the lady from Israel had some good points, yet, so did the Palestinian mother.
She pointed out these, what did the U.S. due when it was occupied, what did France due, Algeria, Palestine land is being occupied, I can admit and see where they come from. I don't think the loss of innocent life does anything for either side.
And the majority of the arguments are one sided, tell me how many times have you heard/seen on the news about the Israeli forces attacking the Palestinian people, about them bulldozing their homes with people still in them, it happens, it happens alot, but we are so used to hearing about the "Muslim" people who have done wrong.
When we hear about attacks that they have done against Israel - - we focus on them, the world focuses on them, especially in this day and age where it seems the world is against the Muslim world.
Well go on the site for the Documentary,
watch what you can, there are two sides and don't focus on only one.
- Mr. E

| To Die in Jerusalem Site | To Die in Jerusalem on HBO |

Watch this video, it speaks about the abductions that Israel used against Pallestine, BEFORE Palestine abducted anyone, it is thestuff that you don't hear about.

Here is another one on the attacks made by the Israeli army. They don't allow foreign media in Palestinian areas, or refugee camps, but this video is taken by the Israeli media.

C.S. Lewis. Novelist:? or Philosopher? Christian? Or Atheist?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We all know C.S. Lewis as th author of the Narnia Chronicles, yet, do you really know his entire body of work? Reading the Narnia chronicles you can pick apart each character and where they may reside in the bible, so it is an obvious, that Lewis was a Christian while writing this series. Did you know that he was an atheist until the age of 30. Not many people know that, that is also why when I read his pieces on Christianity I take them with a more open approach then I would have had he never known the other side, for to argue the point of something, or profess its virtues you must also know the opposing sides argument, and he truly knows it.
The other Mod and I, were discussing Lewis, and came to the conclusion that if anyone could convince someone to be a Christian then it would be Lewis - his writing has formed itself into a series of masterpieces that have already lasted longer then him, and I am sure will outlive us all.
In his book Mere Christianity Lewis criticized the idea that Jesus was a great teacher, and merely a human being. This is in reference to the matter of people accepting the existence of Jesus as nothing more then another person, and he popularized the following argument (which also came to be known as the Trilemma.)

  1. Jesus was telling falsehoods and knew it, and so he was a liar.
  2. Jesus was telling falsehoods but believed he was telling the truth, and so he was insane.
  3. Jesus was telling the truth, and so he was divine.
This argument doesn't try to use any basis of Miracles to prove the divinity of Jesus. It uses his claims, in Jesus claiming to be of a divine nature, then his words must fall under one of the prior arguments. There really is no in between.

| Mere Christianity | Spirits in bondage |

If you want some further development on the teacher/divine aspect watch this, very interesting :

Royksopp - a group you didn't know you knew.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Royksopp is a Norwegian duo whose music inspires your soul toward pure poetry. Their music has been licensed by Apple, T mobile, and most recently by Geico, their song "remind me" is the one song in the background of the Caveman commercials. So like a previous band I have shown you (The Knife) they are everywhere, we just don't know who they are. And my aim is to change that - if I was to describe the genre they might be paced in, I would be stuck here for hours trying to describe it. Sort of a electronic/trance/down tempo/new wave/synthpop/dark wave music group. Give them a listen - watch these videos they make that you find yourself getting entranced by. Thanks
They are also on the | Astralwerks | record label, the same label that started out Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, and many other electro acts from the early 90's, such as the Orb, and Orbital.

Kenna

Virginia Beach has produced some of the most talented individuals like Pharrell Williams, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Chad Hugo, and Kenna who make revolutionary music for generations to come. Kenna released his first album called New Sacred Cow in 2003, which was co-produced by Chad Hugo of The Neptunes. Three years later his second album hit the market called "Make Sure They See My Face," which was also co-produced by Hugo; his first single was featured on the Sony PSP commercial. The best way to describe his music is a blend of electro, synth pop, post rock, and house.

Absurdism : Albert Camus

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Albert Camus was a French Algerian, a philosopher of the 20th century, the second youngest man to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, second to Rudyard Kipling. Camus was a revolutionary, and I don't just mean that in reference to his writing, but to his actions.
Some would call him an existentialist, or at least part of the family, but this was a term that he tried to distance himself from as much as possible.
What Camus is most known for are his endeavors on the notion of the "absurd." His book the Myth of Sisyphus is something that is his chief work on it. I think what allows his work to be so accessible to the masses is that he wrote novels - his novel "The Stranger" is based on the Myth of Sisyphus. Even if you don't have an inclination toward philosophy, you will enjoy the Stranger. Once you pick it up, it is something you find yourself not being able to let go.
Camus defined our human condition as the absurd, as the confrontation between man's desire for significance/meaning/clarity and the silent, cold universe.
- Sincerely, Mr. E.

The 80's brought indulgence and prosperity in every sense of the words, but more importantly in music. Their influences still vibrates in every beat, every synthetic sound, and melody that is born in the present and future. I got this article from Current Tv and it is one of those articles that grabs you and shakes you. It made my day. PMT is a series of short animated films presenting new ideas about global consciousness and techniques for social and ecological transformation. Our first episode, "Towards 2012," introduces the project, explaining concepts from the best-selling book, "2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl" (Tarcher/Penguin, 2006) by Daniel Pinchbeck, in the author's own voice. Future segments will focus on shamanism, sustainability, alternative energy systems, the Mayan Calendar, quantum physics and synchronicity, human sexuality and a host of other subjects.

Brother and sister Karin and Olaf make music that will never be susceptible to time, yet I am sure time will be to their music.
This duos music has been featured in more places then you can mention, but they are a group no one knows. Along with Daft Punk they also don't show their faces in public, the one concert they performed in Sweden was not hampered by personal images, more so it was a visual masterpiece.

Molotov

Molotov has released a new album entitled "Enternamiente" which is one of the few things that Mexico has been able to produce on a continuous bases. By that I only mean music. The single right now is catchy maily because the lyrics are so fun to sing along to. Try singing this along to it, " Yofo zafa fofo, yofo zafa fofo, Yofo zafa fofo alofo nofo cofo cofo, Yofo zafa fofo, yofo zafa fofo." Check out the rest of the album and support their music. Enjoy!

Action Philosophers Vo. 2

Action Philosophers! Is a comic book series by artist Ryan Dunlavey and writer Fred Van Lente, first created for a comic book newspaper "Prophecy,” which was never published. Following this, the creative team won the Xeric Grant in late 2004. The comic homepage states, “Action Philosophers is the award-winning, critically praised comic book series detailing the lives and thoughts of history's A-list brain trust in a hip and humorous way that proves that philosophy is not just the province of boring tweed-enveloped college professors. It gives a new twist to a subject that we all use in our everyday lives. Action Philosophers Volume 2 presents Rene Descartes and his Discourse of The Method; he attempts to arrive at a fundamental set of principles that one can know as true without any doubt. Which leads to the famous quote, “I think, therefore I am” or more aptly, “I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am.” It is a very funny, educational, and new way to look at philosophy. You can read the comic book Action Philosophers Vol. 2 and others at their website, and buy them. Enjoy!

To Be or Not To Be

Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher, historian, logician, mathematician, advocate for social reform, pacifist, and prominent rationalist. He received Nobel Prize in Literature, "in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought"(The Nobel Foundation). He fought with two simple weapons that created an everlasting significant outcome in politics, humanity, and the world in general. His mind and a pen were essential weapons in the fight against violence. He published an essay that tackles a subject that we as humans debate throughout our life, Why I am Not a Christian. A profound essay makes us question our faith and religion. Hope you enjoy it and feel free to leave any feedback.

Kanye West

Call him arrogant, cocky, vain, and self-centered, but one cannot deny that this Chi City rapper takes the hip-hop game and transformers it like a sculpture. With every new album, he transforms, but still maintains that cockiness that we all hate and love. Is it because we wish to say that we are proud of our accomplishments but can’t, which makes Kanye so arrogant for doing so. Kanye has slowly paddled up the river of criticism, has fought off skeptics, and has reached the mountain of glory. I leave you with some of the craziest remixes.

Deftones Remix

Deftones has been a vital role in my appreciation toward music in general; it has opened various doors like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Duran Duran, and Morrissey. The heavy riffs of Stephen Carpenter, that raw scream and melodic voice of Chino Moreno, the drumming of Abe Cunnigham, the simplistic bass by Chi Cheng, and Frank Delgado the man in charge of the turntables, keyboards, and sampling have created timeless music that stands out like red blood lipstick on a pale woman.

For new and old fans here is a couple of remixes.

Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash aka The Man in Black was an American, multi-Grammy Award-winning influential country/rock and roll singer-songwriter. His staggering influence can resonate from country, punk, rock, and even industrial. It is unavoidable not to be drawn into such a powerful force like Johnny Cash. A dim glowing red light faintly flickers in a distance calling at you, moving your body step by step toward the light, until you stand in that ring of fire. He is an American legend that lived and acted as he pleased. I leave you with his famous but simple introduction before the concert "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." Art by Zeruch, check out his site for some other killer art.
